Seeing Our Way Through (DVD)

Seeing Our Way Through is a thirty minute documentary about one family's struggle to redefine who they are after the suicide of their hero. This film was produced to help facilitate small group discussions and to bring awareness to the issues of grief and healing. It is an ideal tool for helping survivors understand the importance of their grieving process.

Jim McCarthy was a much loved hospital executive in the community. He was a loving husband and father. A devoutly religious man who held close to his heart the values of service and compassion for others. He was a quiet man with a comforting smile and a gentle spirit. He was the leader of his family, their hero; who, one spring morning, chose to take his life.

Nothing can ever prepare someone for the shock and devastation of a suicide. Jim's death by suicide was unbelievable to those that knew him, and everything the McCarthy family believed themselves to be was thrown into question.

Seeing Our Way Through is a compelling story of how this family struggled to redefine who they were and their determination to do more than just survive. Ten years after his suicide, Jim's wife, Pat; their children Seamus, Kathy, Colleen and Mary; and his brother Jerry, gather for a weekend to remember. This production documents an incredibly personal and honest account of how each of these people suffered the loss of this man and how they found their way through the pain.

LENGTH: 30 minutes
